The 40th Annual Bear Swamp Run on Saturday was the 8th CVR/ORO Race Series event. 57 runners enjoyed ideal conditions on Saturday. Lots of competition: particularly in Male 30-39 and Female 50-59. Thanks to Tim Noonan and his volunteers for an excellent event!

Jim Flint has updated the standings after this race. If you see any corrections, let Jim know. Seven more races to go; the next is Berlin Pond Five Miler. So not too late to get 6 races!

The first annual CVR Summer Outing on Sunday was a fantastic time. We had 13 enthusiastic participants including one of the newest members (George, at 9 months). We enjoyed Boulder Beach and beautiful weather, trail running, cycling, kayaking, swimming and, of course great burgers supervised by grill master Maryke Gillis. Can’t wait for next year!

Speaking of social events, it is time for another Julio’s night and let’s plan on this coming Tuesday, July 24 after the Fun Run. As usual we will take a headcount before the run and phone in a reservation. Hope you can make it!

CVR Summer Outing This Sunday at Boulder Beach State Park

Our official Summer Outing is this Sunday, July 15 at Boulder Beach State Park in Groton. This afternoon is for you and your family. It is just a day for us to get together as a club and relax. The park is on Lake Groton and has swimming, kayaks/canoes and pedal boats available. Also, the park is connected to all the other Groton parks for running, hiking and mountain biking. A state park day use fee is required for you to drive in and park. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed in the state park (but you can bring your babies!).

We have the picnic shelter reserved. There will be a trail run at 2:30pm, previewing some of the trails for the Groton Forest Trail Run. The run will leave from the shelter and will be about an hour, but if you want to run more (or less) that will be an option too. Let Mark Howard know if you want a different route other than the planned one.

The cookout will be at 5pm. CVR will provide fixings for burgers. We will also supply burgers to those who request in advance. Please RSVP to me by Wednesday if you are coming want a CVR supplied burger (or two). Let me know by Wednesday how many are coming and how many burgers you want. If you don’t want a burger and want to bring your own food, please let me know that too. If you don’t RSVP and decide to come last minute, that is fine, but you will have to bring your own grill items.

Feel free to bring other things for grilling (such as corn) and other cookout items like beans, chips, watermelon, etc. CVR will provide utensils, cups and plates. Please bring your own beverages. Alcoholic beverages are allowed. Note there is no electricity at the shelter (charge phones before coming).

Other things to bring:

Games (horseshoes, cornhole, ladder golf, etc.)
Lawn chairs
Swimming gear
Feel free to come at any time after 1pm and stay as long as you want. Or just come for the cookout. No requirements, just come and we’ll be glad to see you. Remember to RSVP by Wednesday if you want a burger.

Contact me if you have questions. See you Sunday!

Finally, if anyone has a gas grill they would like to bring, please let me know.
