Stu’s 30k

Stu’s 30k was held on Sunday, March 6 in Clinton, MA. I have no idea who Stu is (was?) but the Central Mass Striders have been hosting this Boston Marathon tune-up around the Wachusetts Reservoir for 30 years. There were 393 finishers including Dylan Broderick and Sue Hackney. Dylan ran 2:19:47 for 3rd F 1-29 and 8th F Overall. Sue ran 2:21:46 for 1st F 50-59 and 10th F Overall.

Full results.

An Ras Mor 5k

The An Ras Mor 5k was held on Sunday, March 6 in Cambridge, MA. There were 953 finishers. John Hackney was 1st M 70+ in a time of 22:43. This race was the 1st event in the 2016 USATF-NE Grand Prix.

Winter Wild Waterville Valley

You will recall that the Winter Wild Series is a series of “uphilling” events at NH & VT ski areas. The routes consist of going up and then back down a ski mountain via snowshoes, skis or running. The catch is that you have to go up and come down in the same mode. The 5th race of the series was held at Waterville Valley, NH on Saturday, March 5.

CVR crazy-uphill-lady Fabienne Pattison did something. I think she won her age group but it’s a little hard to say from the results.

Amherst 10-Miler

The Five College Realtors 10-Miler was held in Amherst, MA on Sunday, Feb 28. There were 291 finishers.

Sue Hackney, Dot Martin and Beth Daut swept the top three places in the F 50-59 division with times of 1:11:13, 1:13:56 and 1:15:39. John Hackney finished 2nd in the M 70+ division in a time of 1:21:23. These folks carpooled to the race together. They had to rent a trailer to bring home all their hardware.

Results

Winter Wild Mount Sunapee

The 4th event of the Winter Wild Series was held at Mount Sunapee in NH on Saturday, Feb 27. Once again, Fabienne Pattison did her crazy uphilling thing.

Canadian Ski Marathon

The Canadian Ski Marathon was held on Saturday, Feb 20 and Sunday, Feb 21 from Lachute to Gatineau, Quebec. It is a tour, not a race, but they do publish times. And you get to brag a little if you complete the entire 160k course, no?

I assume that snow conditions were dreadful and I recall the weekend being a little rainy. Nevertheless, we had a bunch of CVR members step up to the challenge, including: Donna Smyers, Jill Aspinall, Ann Bushey, Kate Vanden Bergh, Rebecca Vanden Bergh and Brynn Bushey.

Full individual results are here: http://csm-mcs.com/results/2016-results/2016-individual-results/

In team competition, the Maple Dreamees (the Busheys and Vanden Berghs) won some sort of bronze medal. I can’t explain how the team competition works but the results are here: http://csm-mcs.com/results/2016-results/2016-team-awards/

Winter Wild Okemo

The 3rd event of the Winter Wild Series was held at Okemo in Ludlow, VT on Saturday, Feb 20. You guessed it: Fabienne Pattison scrambled up and down the hill.

Gasparilla Distance Classic

The Gasparilla Distance Classic was held Saturday, Feb 20 and Sunday, Feb 21 in Tampa, FL. There was a 15k, 5k, half marathon and 8k. Ben Ellingson did them all.

Ben’s results:
–> 15k: 1:08:40 (7:23 pace)
–> 5k: 21:38 (6:57 pace)
–> HM: 1:49:49 (8:22 pace)
–> 8k: 46:51 (9:25 pace)

Wow…I am feeling sore just from looking at the results! (Confidential note to Bob Howe: Please ask Ben to write an article about his experience for the next newsletter!)

Publix Florida Half Marathon

The Publix Florida Marathon and related events were held on Saturday, Feb 4 and Sunday, Feb 5 in Melbourne, FL. There was a marathon, half marathon, 8k and 5k. John Valentine did NOT run them all. He did run the half marathon in 1:50:35 for 3rd M 65-69. There were 951 finishers in the half marathon.

(For those of you who are not from the southeast, Publix is a grocery store chain. Some people get really excited about Publix. I repeat: it is a grocery store chain. Some people are easily excited, I suppose.)
