All sorts of fun CVR info
Last week I mentioned a few interesting articles about aging runners times and how millenials killed the running boom. This week, new in from the WSJ, which seems to suddenly have a fascination with running, we learn How Women Took Over the World of Running. Women made up 57% of the 17 million U.S. race finishers in 2015, up from 32% just pre Oprah in 1994 and less than 15% of cycling participants. So apparently it is just male millenials killing the running boom.
Time to get some CVR/ORS Series points! This weekend, Saturday, 9 a.m. at the Barre Town Spring Run is your second chance of the year to get points. Gather as many points as you can to be in the initial tally by June 1 when the results may start being publicized. Remember that if you haven’t renewed or joined CVR by June 1, any races prior to joining won’t count in the final results.
The winners for free entry into the Stowe 8 Miler and 5K have been announced by Shannon Salembier. Congratulations to:
Nina Aiken, Geordy Aiken, Thorin Markison, Andy Shuford, & Leslie Welts
I see one family really lucked out! Also, Arlon Chaffee email@example.com, current RD of the Stowe 8 Miler has posted a history of the 8 miler and is looking for favorite stories from past participants. Please share anything fun or traumatic you recall with him. The club competition rules have been clarified and the most important one is that the club with the most members total in the 8 miler and 5K combined wins $250. So sign up, get your CVR/ORS series points and let’s win! http://stowe8miler.com/ Just be sure to select CVR as your running club during sign up.
New Idea Corner:
CVR Member Steve Hill is hoping to get a sustainable group of runners to gather for a weekly speed/track workout. Right now he is proposing Wednesdays at the MHS track. Start time TBD based on interest. CVR has needed a weekly speed workout for a long time, so if you want to run faster, here is your chance to get it done motivated by a group. Please contact Steve firstname.lastname@example.org to let him know you are interested.
Gavin Boyles has set up a CVR Strava Group. If you don’t know what Strava is, let Gavin email@example.com explain it to you. Leslie Welts told us all sorts of fun ways to use it at the CVR Meeting on Monday. It seems she is queen of many segments right now. You never know what you’re going to miss when you aren’t there.
20th Annual Kids Track Meet Friday June 3 from 6-7:30. This event is a fantastic community event and requires lots of volunteers. Here is the info from Sandy Colvin and Dot Helling:
We need volunteers to help with:
Registration, Water Stations, Track Events, Softball Throw, Long Jump.
They do not need any experience to help. This is a very low key event and most important is the love of the sport and enthusiasm and encouragement for the kids!
Please have volunteers contact me (Sandy) via e-mail at Buckman43@comcast.net or by phone at 272-9795
And when you are done volunteering Friday, you can still race that weekend. Here is an invitation from CVR Member Rick Evans:
“I’m helping to put on the 7th edition of the Race to the Top of Bradford on Sunday June 5th. As in past years, we will have a 3.5 mile trail race to the top of Wrights Mountain as well as a 1.5 mile kids fun run. There will be music, food, and lots of great prizes. The race proceeds will benefit the Bradford Conservation Fund. I hope you can make it! To register or for additional information, please visit our website: bradfordconservation.org/race
Hope to see you on June 5th!
Happy Running, Donna
Fun Run every Tuesday at 5:30. Meet at the Dept of Labor parking off of Green Mtn Dr. at the bike path for 2, 4, or 6 mile course options. Enjoy the newly cleaned course! Put on your best John Martin and say hello to all newcomers and invite them to join CVR. Thank Darragh Ellerson for timing.
