Next Up…. Barre Heritage 5K!
Happy Volunteers at Bear Swamp!
Here is a minor change to last week’s newsletter announcement from Bob Howe: The due date for submissions is delayed from August 1 to August 8. Bob will get the newsletter out before the next CVR meeting which is now scheduled for August 22 at the home of Beth Daut on Crosstown Rd. in Berlin. Potluck at 6, meeting at 6:30. I’ll fill you in on the tentative agenda in a couple of weeks, but let me know if you have anything you would like brought up.
Bob would like articles from CVR members with stories of how running has either made you feel younger or older on occasion and of course submit any race reports, history or other fun running stories you would like to share. Be sure to notify Allie Nerenberg if you want to receive a paper copy rather than email copy of the newsletter. I will send out a link to the pdf on Mailchimp and we will post it on the website.
The 38th Annual Bear Swamp 5.7 Miler lived up to its reputation as a race with character. The first adventure was figuring out which detour you would take to get to the start of the race. Then you got to dodge the giant puddles across the top of the hill. Apparently it rained pretty hard in Middlesex Friday night. Results are up at cvrunners.org. And yes, thanks to the volunteers, Tim got to run for a change!
NEXT UP: The Barre Heritage Festival 5K–a fun trail race around the quarries in the Barre Town Forest. Run or volunteer and then stay and mountain bike or hike to explore the area. Jackie Jancaitis could still use a few volunteers.
The next chance for CVR/ORS points is the Berlin Pond 5 Miler on August 18, followed by Northfield Savings Bank 5K on Sept 3. While you are preparing for them, you might consider signing up for Leafpeepers 5K or Half Marathon. Roger reports that sign ups are about on schedule per last year, but the sooner you sign up the better. Get your friends and relatives to sign up soon too!
Thorin Markison looks a bit more serious than Beth Daut as he completes his sweep winning all 3 Elmore Practice Triathlons for 2016. 1/3 of participants and all volunteers for the Elmore Tri’s in 2016 were CVR members. Hope to see even more of you there next year! See results for 2016 here
