Newsletter Deadline, Final 2016 Fun Run and More…
I’m back from my first Ironman in 4 years in Louisville. Now I realize why it took me 4 years to try one again. It took enough out of me that I am combining a couple weeks news and notes into one this weekend.
Energetic new CVR member Kelly Hadiaris chats with her husband before passing me as I grunt through the start of the marathon. I predict Kelly will be up there in the CVR/ORS series standings in the near future.
Alert CVR member and Newsletter Editor Bob Howe reminds me that the CVR Meeting Nov. 7 is coming right up! That means he has established an Oct. 24 deadline for article submissions. Please send Bob any fun race stories, observations and photos by October 24.
You have 2 options this Tuesday afternoon/evening, both of which can culminate with dinner at Julio’s:
Tim Noonan, who coaches MHS Cross Country, can use some help for the high school and middle school cross country meet this Tuesday, October 18. It starts and finishes at the Montpelier Recreation Field on Elm Street. They need some help at the finish line from about 3:45-6:15. Contact Tim if you can help firstname.lastname@example.org . Support youth running and cheer our local athletes!
The finale for the 2016 CVR Fun Runs is also this Tuesday at 5:30. As is CVR tradition, we are planning a get together at Julio’s after the run. If you aren’t helping Tim at the XC meet, come run 2 or 4 miles to wrap up the season. Let’s make the finale a grand one!
The MHS XC Meet and the Fun Run coincide, but they will both finish in time to meet at Julio’s at 6:30. If you won’t be at Fun Run but might come to Julio’s to join in, let me know so we have a hint of how many chairs/tables to request.
Autumn Onion 5K. Remember that it is part of the CVR/ORS series this year, which means that you can still get points! This is your last opportunity to boost your score, so go for it–especially in costume! On-Line sign up is open and it really helps the timers (that would be me) if you pre-register. Makes it so much easier race day, really. Save $5 ( that’s 50% for kids and 33% for adults) by registering now at Onion River Sports.
The Barre Town Middle and Elementary School (BTMES) PTO is putting on a 5k/1m fun/walk Color-A-Thon Oct 22. Heather Slayton is looking for volunteers, especially for set up and tear down and leafblowers to help get color dust off of participants at the end. You might even be able to both run and help. Contact Heather with questions or to volunteer. Ever wondered what one of those popular Color Runs are like? Here you go with a low key look-a-like.
The Middle School XC Championships will be held at Trapp Family Lodge on Oct 29. Contact Sue Dodge if you can volunteer–many are needed.
Hope you all have enjoyed this awesome foliage season!
Final Fun Run of the Season (4 miles max) is October 18. Plan on Julio’s after the run.
CVR Track Workouts every Wednesday–Intervals start at 6 pm at the Montpelier High School Track (The plan for these workouts during the darker days is in the works. Contact Steve Hill if you have questions or suggestions)
