News you can use
Steve Hill thinks that you might not realize how much fun and motivating the Wed speed workouts are. He says the “speed” part of it has changed definition with the season. They still mostly do timed pickups for fairly long intervals with headlamps on the bike path, but many just show up to run with people and skip the tempo part these days. Steve says that about half the participants each week admit that they wouldn’t be running that night if not for the group and some even admit it is their first run since the last Wed night. Everyone is welcome to join in and do whatever kind of running you feel up for and enjoy that special cameraderie that running in the dark and cold with a group provides. 6 pm every Wed night at the bike path near the track. Contact Steve firstname.lastname@example.org to be on the list for any last minute changes.
Winter Long Runs take a Holiday Break the next 2 weeks. Jeff thinks you might need the time to shop this Saturday and we know you all will be at NYE 5K either running or volunteering the next Saturday, right?
Speaking of which….
Time is running short to preregister for the New Year’s Eve 5K. PLEASE preregister to curtail any financial exchanges in the Pavilion building. Use this online link to register or you can print and mail the app from here. Contact Ann Bushey if you can volunteer instead of running.
Reservations are still being taken for the Annual CVR Volunteer Appreciation Dinner and CVR/ORS Series Awards on January 26, 2017. John Martin reports that the initial response has been very good; he’s even a little worried he might be limited to one piece of pizza if everybody comes. Don’t worry, we can order more! Contact John to RSVP and remember to check with Jim Flint if your name is not on this list and should be.
While the running race calendar is a bit thin these days, you have the opportunity to participate in a local Snowshoe running World Championship. I received this from SnowshoeRacing.com:
The 10th annual WSSF World Snowshoe Championships visit the US for the first time ever this season. The events take place in Saranac Lake, NY, in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, February 23rd-26th, 2017. We hope you will consider attending and representing your Country in this important event. These are “open” events where no membership or qualifying is necessary. We are expecting more than 300 participants and hope to attract representatives from nearly 20 different countries. Come carry your country’s flag in the Parade of Nations and the Opening Ceremonies on Friday February 24th.
CVR Saturday Morning Winter Long Runs (restart Jan 7). Contact Jeff Prescott to be included in the weekly information emails.
CVR Speed Workout Wednesdays at 6 pm–As of now these continue. Meet near the MHS track on the bike path. Bring a headlamp! Contact Steve Hill if you have questions and want to be added to his email list.
