News and Notes from Donna

News you can use!

I forgot to get a photo at the Annual Meeting, so enjoy this group selfy, courtesy of Manny Sainz, who is the only one with a 100% attendance record at the unofficial Fun Runs for 2017. Except for precipitation from 5:30-6:30….it also is 2 for 2.

Happy CVR Birthdays!

Happy Birthday this week to: Callie Barrett, Peyton Burr, Meg Allison, Ben Kidder, Laura Fillbach, & Sawyer Castle!

CVR has some famous folks! Learn why Sue and John Hackney run so fast in the GMAA Newsletter feature article. And MHS student/CVR member Jeremy Hoyne-Grosvenor hit another PR with a 9:15.59 in the 2 mile run, placing 12th at Nationals in NY on March 12, this follows on his 3rd place, state record setting 4:18 mile at New Englands, just a couple weeks ago. Our Ace Reporter, Jim Flint, has written some great articles about Jeremy’s races and about other local runners for the Hardwick Gazette. Go to your local library or ask Jim for the stories.

The April Fools CVR Winter Long Run will be hosted by Bob Emmons, Saturday at 9:30 a.m. at the Moretown General Store on Rte 100B. A dirt road route is planned with a pavement bail out option in case of deep mud (actually, I see big snow in the forecast, not mud). Contact Bob, for info, special requests, or to let him know you are coming.

I’m still working on my tripod stance, relaxing my toes and thighs and extending my spine after the Chi Running clinic prior to the CVR Annual Meeting. Now I need to figure out how to do that while running. Maybe I need the half day clinic and some remedial classes, but I can aim for the effortless run, can’t I? We had a great attendance of 28 at the Annual Meeting and there were a few items I’d like to share. Full meeting minutes are already posted by our efficient secretary Sandy Colvin and Webmaster John Hackney.
The budget and membership are in better shape than last year, so we were able to vote to continue to support youth running programs at the same level as last year. Up to 10 running programs may receive $250 grants from CVR this spring with additional grants to cross-country programs and Special Olympics.
Sandy Colvin is designing flyers that we can post around town to help build up Fun Run attendance and attract new runners when the official runs start in May. We’ll be looking for volunteers to post flyers. Let me know if you have any other ideas to promote Fun Runs.
And our first race of the season The 21st Annual CVR Mutt Strutt is just one month away! Spread the word to make it a big success. If you’d like to volunteer, contact Cindy Gardner-Morse.
