News you can Use!
Lots of CVR Birthdays this Week!
Happy Birthday this week to: Silas Baker, Andy Shuford, Beth Daut, Chris Eaton, Gretchen Elias, Barbara Flint, Kelly Hadiaris, Leah Acosta, Paschal DeBlasio, David Vanderlinde-Abernathy, Lance Parker, Scott Skinner (Actually, there are 3 on this list who are not CVR members, but have one more week left in the grace period. You know who you are?)
Barre Town Spring Run
Kids take off as adults look down to start their watches
Have you heard what CVR member Lance Parker is doing right now? He is attempting to run 888K in 10 days. It looks on the course map like every 27 mile figure 8 includes about 4500 ft of vertical. Last I knew he was in the lead. Below….a pleasant start to Day 2 and Kelly Hadiaris accompanies him in some different weather. I’m pretty sure Fabienne Pattison did some pacing too. I think you still have time to register for the 8K, the marathon, the 88K or the 100 Miler which start Friday-Sat if you want to be there for the finish! To register or track Lance check out the Infinitus.
On to more mundane news….
Volunteers Needed! Dot and Sandy still need quite a few volunteers for the Kid’s Track Meet on Friday June 2. It is a fun and inspiring evening. They need about 20 total to herd the cats (or kittens?). Please contact Dot email@example.com to sign up.
Skipping through June with the Capital City Stampede and Paul Mailman 10 Miler (I’ll be plugging them and asking for volunteers soon enough), I want to be sure you are ready for what comes up in early July– our 2 non-CVR series events:
Registration for the July 3 Montpelier Mile is up! This is the quickest CVR/ORS race series points you can earn and one of the best spectated races in Montpelier. Register early and save. And I recommend a few Wed night speed workouts in the next month to get ready. Since it will be chip timed for the first time, CVR will not need to supply nearly as many stressed out volunteers. 7 CVR volunteers are still needed to help out, so let me know if you can be there in a non-racing mode.
On the heels of the Montpelier Mile, the Stowe 8 Miler and Flying Onion 5K, July 9, is another CVR/ORS series race. Unlike last year, there is not a club participation competition, but you can get series points in either the 8 Miler or the 5K. Ask Chris Andresen for advice about weighing the competition in each race to maximize points. He seems to be good at that.
FUN RUN is getting some great attendance. New people running every distance from beginners to fast people. It is fun to see. Wednesday Speed workouts have also been well attended.
One last reminder….If you have not renewed your membership by June 1 (I still see some names with a 2016 on the list that should not be there), you will be purged from the email list on June 1 or soon thereafter and not receive the newsletter and not be counted in CVR/ORS series for any races prior to renewal. As a former president of CVR might say….”don’t be that person”.
Good luck to all doing VCM! Be sure you are signed up as a CVR member if you are running the whole marathon. There are club prizes to be had and CVR members have won some $$ in the last couple of years!
CVR Fun Run every Tuesday, May to October, at 5:30 pm. Meet at the bike path behind the Dept of Labor Park & Ride. Run 1, 2, 4 or 6 miles. Run for time and/or as a social run–your choice!
CVR Speed Workout Wednesdays at 6 pm. Meet on the MHS track warmed up by 6. Contact Steve Hill if you have questions and want to be added to his email list.
