Donna’s CVR News and Notes

News you can use!

CVR Birthdays this Week!
Happy Birthday this week to: Todd Sears, Grace Brigham, Dave Erickson, Jeff Stetter (New AG!), and Dana McCarthy (New AG!)

Matt Rutherford sports the CVR singlet placing 2nd OA

Did you see the great Leafpeepers coverage in the Times Argus?
There is a fantastic photo and full page of results in Tuesday’s paper and a slew of photos including many familiar faces in this article https://www.timesargus.com/articles/graves-allen-win-leaf-peepers-half-marathon/.
We are very lucky to have good local media coverage of running. Jim Flint writes a regular running column for the Hardwick Gazette that I just found is now carried by the Adamant Coop. The Washington World regularly publishes our Fun Run results. And the Times Argus actually sends writers and photographers to our races for coverage. Go ahead and buy a paper once in a while to support the local coverage!

For really local coverage…. The next CVR Newsletter will come out in late October before the CVR meeting on November 6. Get your articles and photos to Bob Howe by October 23.

Your last chance in the 2017 CVR/ORS Series, the Autumn Onion is open for registration. Start planning your costume! Let me know if you prefer to help me time it.

Fun Runs end soon due to lack of daylight: Sunset Oct.10 – 6:16, Oct. 17 – 6:04, Oct 24 – 5:53, Oct. 31 – 5:42. Based on the sunset times, I think we will call Tuesday October 24 the final official Fun Run of the season with a post run dinner at a local restaurant TBD (feel free to vote where if you’ll be there).

As a follow-up to last week’s sad announcement, here is the obituary for David Ellerson: http://www.guareandsons.com/obituary/r-david-ellerson-md. A memorial service is planned for Friday October 6 at 5 pm at the Unitarian Church. I expect overwhelming attendance as people appreciate David’s life and positive impact on the community and support Darragh and the family.

Volunteers made it happen!

I thought Leafpeepers went very well. Thanks so much to Roger and the Committee and all the volunteers for pulling it off and ordering such nice weather. If you have any feedback on the race, send it to Roger Cranse so he can incorporate your feedback into future plans.
Jim Flint burned the midnight oil again!

Look for the updated race series with Leafpeepers results here.
I believe there are a few Leafpeepers volunteer check marks to be added, but I think we might be overwhelmed with Fallen Leaves volunteers if some leaders and contenders don’t want to disappear from the standings. Whether you are leading or not, be sure you have volunteered to be counted in the final results. Let Jim know if you see any errors or omissions–Leafpeepers has lots of people to scan through.

Here is another look at the leaderboard with Jim’s insightful analysis:
Females
0-19 Theresa Noonan*
20-29 Marian Wolz
30-39 Meg Valentine*
40-49 Anna Milkowski
50-59 Dot Martin*
60-69 Sue Emmons*
70-79 Celine Blais

Males
0-19 Brian Bushey*
20-29 Matt Rutherford*
30-39 Colin Clifford
40-49 Kari Bradley
50-59 Jim Flint*
60-69 Mike Gillis
70-79 John Hackney*
80-89 Gerry Carlson*

There are several close contests:
Males
30-39: Alexander Jinks could overcome Colin Clifford at Autumn Onion.
40-49: Kari Bradley has a one-race edge over Ben Ellingson and Jon Floyd. Ben and Jon can challenge Kari at Autumn Onion.
60-69: Mike Gillis overtook Tim Noonan at Leaf Peepers. Will Tim and Mike go head to head at Autumn Onion?

Females
20-29: Marian Wolz has a one-race edge on Lori Crotts. Lori could win the age group at Autumn Onion.
40-49: Anna Milkowski has led all season long. Richarda Ericson is still in position for a come from behind win.
70-79: Celine Blais has clinched at least a share of the age group title. Marsha could still tie Celine with a solo race at Autumn Onion.
