All suffragists and suffragents, runners, and walkers are invited to
participate in the Suffrage Scramble 5K Virtual Event
Run or walk a fun 5K in your neighborhood to commemorate 100 years of the 19th Amendment!
Friends, organizations, clubs and corporations are invited to form groups to commemorate the Women’s Suffrage Centennial 1920-2020! Wear your sash, and “Take the Pledge” to become an informed voter! Gather donations if you wish for additional support to complete the legacy. The motto of VSCA is Hard Won—Not Done. Event proceeds and your extra donations will be sent to the Rutland NAACP to help fund expansion of voter registration, education and access for historically disenfranchised racial groups. Maybe create a group run to your polling place with your sash on VT Primary Day August 11!
The Suffrage Scramble 5K, presented by CVR, is produced in conjunction with the Vermont Suffrage Centennial Alliance. Led by the League of Women Voters of Vermont, the VSCA is a growing statewide alliance of volunteers, who in 2020 will commemorate and celebrate 100 years of women voting in the United States. VSCA is committed to informing Vermonters of the history and outcomes of women’s suffrage and engaging them in the ongoing quest for equal rights and citizenship.
We are also celebrating ½ century of women being allowed to participate in road racing! It took 50 years after women gained the right to vote until they gained the right to run in the Boston Marathon, the New York City Marathon or pass Title IX to allow access to running teams in schools and universities. One century with the Right to Vote, one/half century with the Right to Run!
How to Participate: Sign up as a group or individual here. During the week of the Vermont Primary, run or walk a 5K of your choosing. Document the distance on your GPS device or cell phone app and/or provide a photo of your accomplishment at the Finish Line on LetsDoThis.com!
