CVR Birthdays this week:

Happy Birthday to: Dodge Bingham, Ann Bushey, Michael Chernick, Rosalie Managan, Evan Thornton-Sherman, Marian Wolz (new age group), Heidi Hales, Andy Gilbert, & Lesley Kantlehner (new age group)!

Greetings from a STILL wintery Adamant,

The snow off the roof may be piled 3/4 way up my window, blocking a lot of my view of the world, but the average daily temperature high for mid-March here is around 40 F degrees so I expect the snow levels to recede soon. This of course will usher in mud season making the roads around here an obstacle course. This seems to be the time of year potholes make their presence known on paved roads as well. With that in mind, watch yourselves as you ramp up your running for the coming running season. There’s another St Patrick’s day race in Lebanon NH this coming weekend and Kaynor’s Sap Run two weeks later. It just gets busier after that. Speaking of upcoming races, John Hackney needs volunteers for the Paul Mailman races on April 15th. Please sign up online or contact John directly at jhackney67@gmail.com as soon as possible.

As always, watch your footing, wear bright colored clothes, watch for cars, stay healthy, and have fun.

Winter Group Runs
Fifteen souls (or 30 soles) turned up for the Plainfield WGR. For once it wasn’t ten below or snowing hard. This weekend the plan is to meet in Waterbury at Black Cap Coffee Roasters onSaturday at the usual meeting time (9am). Given the approach of more wet weather and lots of freeze/thaw (hello March), spikes or shoes with screws are going to be your friend!  Look for the details Thursday for the next run, and as always, if you want to join that list, email Donna Smyers or Heather Tomlins. More info and sign-up sheet are here.

Club Meeting
I have reserved the Adamant Community Club building here in Adamant for our March meeting. The meeting will be Sunday, March 26th from 3-5PM. As its being held at the Adamant Community Club, I’d like to offer snacks for members to munch on as we work through the meeting. Please feel free to bring something to share.  Also, please send me your agenda items. Current agenda includes a financial update, race safety, adding an Upper Valley race to the race series, and club officer position renewing for the coming year. This is your club so bring up your concerns and thoughts how we can be a better club. Thanks!

Membership Renewal – Reminder
We are in the renewal time of year. If your membership year is 2022, your membership will expire on 3/31/2023.
There’s a link to RunReg at https://cvrunners.org/join-cvr (“JOIN CVR”). This page also has a printable form for those who prefer to mail their renewal.
Do consider renewing with a multi-year membership. This means fewer year-end renewals for you and less administration for the club.
Not sure whether your membership is due for renewal in 2023?
•              check your membership card *
•              check when your membership expires by logging in to the CVR website at https://cvrunners.org/wp-login.php/ (instructions at: https://cvrunners.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/02/membership-expiration-instructions.pdf
•              contact me at graham.a.sherriff@outlook.com and I’ll confirm your renewal date
* Need a new card for yourself or other household members? Let me know!

Senior Games Recognition
Jim Flint reports Elizabeth McCarthy , Tim Hogeboom, Donna Smyers, Charlie Windisch, and I are the CVR members who went to Nationals last year. Tim, Elizabeth, and I won ribbons (4th-8th) in our age groups. I also won a bronze medal. Donna will receive special recognition as a multi-medal winner for Vermont. Vermont Senior Games recognition of athletes will be on March 15 at the Vermont State House.

Donna’s three gold medals and one bronze medal at Nationals were eclipsed by just one other Vermonter – the legendary Flo Meiler. Competing in track and field, Flo, 87, earned five gold, four silver, and one bronze.

Strava
Were you aware the Winter Group Runs are recorded on Strava? Check with Donna or Heather if you want to join.

Web Site
We have a story sent in by a member that is now posted on the website. It’s by Joe Merrill about his and Katie’s trip to Bermuda to run the Bermuda Triangle Challenge. Here’s a link to the story on the Member Posts page: https://cvrunners.org/member-posts/    Please send any running related stories and articles that you think other members would be interested to read to John at info@cvrunners.org

Race Series
It’s a new year and Joe and John are the ones handling the race series tracking.  Head here cvroro race series – Central Vermont Runners (cvrunners.org) to check out your competition.

Trail Running
Mark informed me that trail running has gone into hibernation for the winter. For those who like to be on trails year-round, I encourage you to look into a set of micro-spikes from Onion River Outdoors. The folks there can also suggest a wide range of trails to explore and how best to do it.

Other runs
Day Light Saving time has happened! While the current storm may put a damper on people running on the first Tuesday, I expect more people will be showing up Tuesday evenings. Civil twilight is now about 7:30 PM. If you do run Tuesday evenings, please continue to wear bright/reflective clothes and lights.  The days continue to lengthen by roughly 3 minutes.
