Joe Gingras, of Montpelier posted the fastest time in several years, taking the 22nd Annual Bear Swamp 5.7 Mile race in 33:56 on Wednesday evening. Joe was chased the entire distance by Matt Czaplinski who finished a scant 5 seconds behind in 34:01. Masters runner Bill Dysart was third in 35:42, Dave Birse, fourth, in 36:48, and race director Tim Noonan, fifth, in 37:05. Master Kathy Barrows led the women over the difficult climb with a superb 41:30 time.
Category leaders were, female under 18, Cady Kintner, 42:14, 18-29, Tracey Mancini, 44:16, 30+, Laura Medalie, 42:56, 50+, Elizabeth Meiklejohn (preparing for the 5 borough NYC Marathon), 58:29, male under 18, Steven Bell, 50:17, 18-29, Steve Comolli, 46:24, 50+, John Elkins (new Stowe 8 Miler race director), 39:18, and 60+, Bob Murphy (rejuvenated and still sporting a full head of hair at 60), 41:48.
