News and Notes – January 11-24, 2026

🗓️RSVP for the CVR Annual Volunteer and Awards Dinner on January 29, 2026 at the Capitol Plaza in Montpelier! An evening to celebrate our volunteers, reflect on another great year, and make awards to our CVR/ORO Series winners and other special awards. Please RSVP on this sheetby January 22 so we can finalize the headcount and ensure the menu is inclusive of dietary needs. We can’t wait to see you in a few weeks! Click here to add the event to your Google Calendar. Check your 2025 volunteer status here, and contact us ASAP if you expected to see your name but do not!

🏆The Awards Committee is seeking nominees for this year’s Spirit of the Club and David Ellerson Volunteer of the Year Awards. Do you know someone in the club who may fit the profiles of either of these awards? Nominate them! Details on the awards and the form to submit the name and a brief reason why you’re nominating them can be found here.

  • GLOW RUN! This Wednesday, January 14, 5:30pm. A fun run hosted by the Montpelier Complete Streets Committee to raise public awareness of pedestrians after dark and the importance of being bright at night, particularly during the winter months. Runners should come dressed in their brightest season-appropriate running attire, including headlamps, flashing vests, reflective strips, and any other highly visible festoons.
    • Meet at ORO, then join the run comprising 4 miles touring Montpelier’s flat(ish) downtown, quaint neighborhoods, ten lit bridges, and the Statehouse.
    • Pace: 9-11 min/mile, but not required. Group pace(s) will be determined by the turnout – we may break into quicker/slower groups if we have enough turnout to warrant splitting up, but we will aim to stay together.
    • Contact: Please RSVP Scott Richardson at richardson.76@gmail.com with your intent to attend and your approximate conversational pace or with any questions.
  • 🏃We have a winner! We are thrilled to announce that Sal Acosta is the winner of this year’s Boston Marathon Entry Raffle! Congratulations to Sal, and best of luck on your first (!!) Boston Marathon! Unbelievably, though Sal has tried over the years, he has never been able to actually get into the race (famously Boston is tough to enter, even when you BQ!). We are so happy to get to send you to compete and look forward to hearing all about it. Thank you to all who entered the raffle – please throw in again, we wish that we had unlimited entries to send you all this year!
  • 2026 CVR/ORO Race Series Scoring Changes! This year’s series launched with the NYE 5K, and this year we made some changes to the rules, after lengthy discussions in the race committee and at the most recent club meeting. The updated scoring approach for this year’s series can be found on the website here. We ultimately made the update to simplify the scoring system, to bring it in line with the scoring systems used by other regional running clubs for their race series (such as the Upper Valley Run Club and the Adirondack Running Club), and to encourage more participation across the slate of races. We hope this results in a more straight-forward point system!
  • ☃️Winter Group Runs – hosts needed for future dates! Get details on the weekly runs as they come together on the Google sheet here. Note that WGRs will be taking off at 9:30am on Saturdays this winter (with Sundays as possible snow-days if Saturday weather looks particularly unfavorable). Sign up to host at this google sheet, or email Jessica Ball, our WGR coordinator, at jessica.petrino@gmail.com.
    • Email Heather or Donna ASAP if you not getting our Thursday WGR emails! We send out a Thursday blast with details of the coming WGR in a special note. You can also always find details on the google sheet above!
    • This Saturday, January 17, we will be in Cabot Village (a new WGR spot!) thanks to host April Farnham.

Yet another birthday WGR, this time for Chris Andresen in Adamant

  • Reminder – Fun Runs have officially ended! But if your Tuesday evenings feel empty, don’t fear – an intrepid group continues to meet at the Bear Naked Growler on Tuesdays for a run along the bike path at 5:30pm. Wear your reflective gear and headlamps – be seen, be safe!

Member benefits – don’t forget your benefits! Including the new offering from the Sanctuary in Northfield, all details on benefits and how to access them can be found here.
