Central Vermont Runners
President’s Note
I am writing the day before the Leaf Peepers Half Marathon and 5k with glorious foliage and excellent fall racing weather anticipated. I am hoping all who race it do well. Many thanks to all those who answered the call to volunteer at the event.Leaf Peepers brings an end to the CVR-Onion Rivers Outdoors race series for the year. Special thanks to Joe Merrill for his timely posting s of the race series standings this year. Now that the race series is over, it is time to look ahead to setting the race schedule and race series races for next year. As discussed at the last club meeting, we need to meet this month for this purpose. This will be an in-person meeting (or possibly two meetings) at our house – 2 Pinewood Road in Montpelier. Here are some possible dates, all in the evening: October 15, 18, 19, 21. If you agreed to be on the race committee, or would like to be added to the committee, please let me know which of these dates work for you. My email address is: carrnoonan@comcast.net. Please respond quickly so we can firm up the meeting date(s). If you cannot make it in-person, we will provide a Google Meets option.Even though the race series is wrapped up for the year, CVR races are not ended. The Fallen Leaves 5k races are on tap for the first three Saturdays of November.- Tim Noonan

Calls for Volunteers
Fallen Leaves: Your last chance to volunteer for the current race series. Please email Tim (carrnoonan@comcast.net) or sign up to volunteer on the CVR website to let us know you can help!

Additional News
Next CVR Meeting: Save the date! We have scheduled the next CVR meeting for Sunday, November 15th. Location and details as we approach, I just wanted folks to have this on their calendars.

New Book by a CVR Member: Gordon MacFarland has published a book titled “Staying With It: Reflections on Running and Aging”! It is now available at Bear Pond Books in Montpelier, and an event will be planned in October. Read about the book here. This ties in nicely with recent member special editions by Dot Helling and Elizabeth McCarthy, so we are wondering if anyone would be interested in a longer collection of musings on this topic. If
you would like to contribute, email Addie (addiemariehedges@gmail.com).

Nathan Suter Scholarship: A component of the track celebration was collecting donations for a scholarship in honor of Nathan Suter. If you would like to contribute, you can Venmo “MRPS Partners in Education Corporation” and include “Nathan Suter” in the description.

Shoes for Sale: Luke Miller is trying to sell a pair of Hoka Clifton Pro (men’s 9) shoes for $100. He wore them a few times and found they didn’t work for him. Email Luke (luke.b.miller17@gmail.com) if you are interested.

NEK Weekly Runs: Fun runs are popping up around the Danville and St. Johnsbury area! If you’d like to see what’s happening in that corner of Vermont, follow the Kingdom TNT Run Club on Strava and Facebook for upcoming group runs.

Marathon Sports Trail Run: Marathon Sports in Montpelier will host a trail run on Sunday, October 18 at 9:30 am. Craft will have a demo of the Xplor 2 and Nordlite trail running shoes. A free pair of shoes will be raffled off, alongside other fun giveaways. There will be some warm apple cider to rehydrate with as well.
