Welcome Autumn!
I hope everyone is enjoying the changing of the leaves and a little chill in the air this weekend! Though the vernal equinox is officially tomorrow, it’s hard not to celebrate today so if you feel like dancing a little in your living room tonight click here (just trust me).
Meanwhile, lots going on in the next few weeks, including Leaf Peepers weekend which will happen prior to the next newsletter so sign up to run, volunteer, or both! Details below. And, hope to see many of you (in person or online) at our club meeting tomorrow night in Adamant!
Happy running,
Heather

Race Updates and Volunteer Needs
October Events:
Leaf Peepers – October 5 – Registration is open. This is a large and complex race that is only successful due to incredible volunteer support. If you’re interested in volunteering (you can volunteer AND run if you like! We have jobs for all types of volunteers) – please send an expression of interest through the Contact Us link on the webpage so we can figure out our needs. THANK YOU!
On deck for November/December:
- November 1st, 8th, and 15th – Fallen Leaves 5K Series – keep these fun and fast (but casual) races in mind as you head into the fall season, happening at Montpelier High School every Saturday in November before Thanksgiving. No pre-registration, just show up with cash or check and see how you go! And also, if by the time November rolls around and you STILL haven’t volunteered yet (really??), these are your last chances to do so and still remain eligible for a race series award!
- December 31st – New Year’s Eve 5K – your favorite end of year race is still a few months out, but it’s never too late to start getting your cold weather race outfit planned OR thinking about getting a jump start on a volunteer role at the VERY beginning of the new race season (that’s right, this restarts the clock on the race series and counts toward 2026 race series standings!).
*******
CVR cannot put on races without volunteer support, and your help is always needed. Please volunteer now to help the race directors fill necessary jobs and plan for full race day support. Volunteer now online using the Volunteer link on the CVR website homepage at https://cvrunners.org OR by email to the race directors above.
Next Club Meeting – TOMMOROW NIGHT! September 22
We will be meeting in Adamant at the Community Club tomorrow evening, September 22 – come out and see your fellow members at the potluck prior to the meeting (around 5:30pm), and stay for the fun (meeting will start around 6pm and last one hour). There will be a remote option for those who can’t make it in person. Send any agenda items my way, the draft agenda can be found here.
2025 CVR/ORO Race Series Standings
And then there was one race left in the CVR/ORO Race Series! The updated standings through Sodom Pond are here. There’s still some intrigue in the M70-79 age group, but all others have been clinched, with a few pending volunteer status (if that’s you, check your status in the link and be sure to sign up to volunteer!). There is only 1 race left to vie for a title, so sign up for Leaf Peepers TODAY!
And don’t forget one requirement is to volunteer at least once – just 4 more opportunities to do so this fall (including Leaf Peepers (Will also really needs people!), and all three Fallen Leaves 5Ks) so sign up today to help!
Coordinator Joe Merrill works to update these as frequently as he can, so we update on the website whenever possible. Be patient as results can sometimes take a few weeks after races to reconcile.

A sincere thank you to our sponsor Onion River Outdoors and specifically Allee Pineault for her excellent work putting this together. We will have printed copies of the poster available if you want to share this with any local businesses or publicize at your upcoming races, just let me know!
Trails Runs Updates
**THIS WEEKEND!!** September 27 – epic season ending trail runs at Trapp Family Lodge!! Hosts Matt and Heidi (Hales) Dugan took CVR to this event last year and it was a hit – see the google sheet for more information. Do not miss!
Weekly Wednesday evening trail runs at North Branch/Hubbard Park have ended! There may be some fall/winter trail fun in the works so watch this space for updates. Meanwhile the final official summer trail run had a few folks smiling big in that magic hour light by Sparrow Farm! Thanks to Jenn Gordon for spearheading these runs this year, we are excited to add these to our growing list of running options!

Other Trail Runs and Events around the region this fall:
- October 5 – Brewster Ramble Trail 5K in Cambridge, a fundraiser for the Vermont Land Trust
- October 11 – Elmore Mountain 10K via Catamount Trail Association
- November 1 – CircumVictory 17-miler – a fun and down to earth race (but note the event is capped at 150 so if this looks like your thing, sign up today! Prices go up 10/13). See below for a familiar CVR-er who told me last weekend that she intends to be there for this year’s again, join her?

If you’re interested in hosting you can take a look at available weekends in the google sheet here. Each week if a run is organized, the details will be updated in a tab in the same sheet, and the host will send out via the CVR Trails Google Group. If you’re not receiving trails emails but want to be, let Mark or Heather know so we can add you to the group.
**If you’re curious about what hosting a trail run entails, check out the host guidelines here.**
Note that an organized Saturday/Weekend run may not happen every week if there isn’t a host signed up. Also as the season is still getting going and with rain and iffy trail conditions, runs may be sporadic – stay tuned!
Fun Run – DoL Tailgate on September 23
We are at the DoL meeting spot for Tuesday runs this season, meet at 5:30 for a run of your chosen distance! This Tuesday, there will be a potluck tailgate at the DoL after the run. Next Tuesday will be the last Tuesday of the month so there will be a post-run meetup at Positive Pie! I’ll remind you in the events update next Sunday, don’t worry.
