Other CVR News:
- Spring Youth Grants are Open! Youth running program directors are requested to send their spring grant requests ASAP to our new Youth Running Grant Coordinator Sean Sheehan (sfsheehan@gmail.com) by 11:59pm on March 13 – we’ll do a fast turnaound on decisions this year! Requests should be for $250 and applicants should email their responses to these five questions in their application:
- What is the name of the youth organization/club?
- What is your name and your role with the organization?
- In 50 words or less, describe your youth running program and how you anticipate using the funds.
- If you received a grant last year, please describe how you used it (photos are welcome as well, but not required).
- What is your organization’s mailing address? Also, if a potential check should be made out to something other than the organization name, please explain.
- Save the Date – Annual Club Meeting scheduled for Sunday, March 15 (a week from today!) in East Montpelier. Join us at the Four Corners Schoolhouse for our annual meeting. By popular demand, we will also host a fun run before the meeting so lace up those shoes (be ready for mud!) and join for a little jaunt around East Montpelier/Adamant before the potluck and meeting. A virtual meeting option will be available, as always. The draft agenda can be found here.
- This is a BIG MEETING because there are quite a few board seats that will be up for election! President and Vice President terms are up, and our indefinite term roles of Treasurer and Secretary are also open (which doesn’t usually happen at the same time!). We have a slate of officers lined up (sans secretary….we are recruiting – see below!) and welcome additional names – reach out to Heather (hetomlins@gmail.com) and Dot (dothelling@gmail.com) (nominating committee) if you have ideas. Otherwise come to the meeting (in person or virtual) to cast your votes and meet your new board!
- Tim Noonan Recognized by New England 65+ Runners Club – Tim has the distinction of coming in second in the NE65+ 2025 1000+ Miles Challenge! From the newsletter: “Tim Noonan of Montpelier, VT, has been an avid runner for 49 years. He placed second for total miles behind Linda last year, too. Tim, who is 69, ran 2,109 miles, walked 827 (mostly with his Tibetan Terrier, Lucy!) for a total of 2,936 miles last year. His favorite distance is the marathon, and he typically does three per year. 2025 was no exception. Tim ran Boston in April, the Vermont City Marathon in May, and the Maine Marathon in October. To prepare for these races, he ran about 45 miles a week for eight months. Even when he is not training for a marathon, he averages about 35 miles a week. “I love to run and never take significant time off. This includes training consistently throughout Vermont winters. I embrace training in most conditions and adjust accordingly. Aside from running, Tim bicycled over 2,000 miles last year. He credits cycling and walking for keeping him injury-free. “In all my years of running, I have only once missed more than a week of running at any one time due to injury or illness. This makes me constantly grateful! Of course, I have slowed down a lot, but this has not bothered me. Age-graded times and new age groups have helped a great deal in this regard. I look forward to entering the 70+ age group this May!” Congratulations Tim!
Winter Group Runs – hosts needed for a few more weekends – we go until the weekend before Mailman! Get details on the weekly runs as they come together on the Google sheet here. Note that WGRs will be taking off at 9:30am on Saturdays this winter. Sign up to host at this google sheet, or email Jessica Ball, our WGR coordinator, at jessica.petrino@gmail.com.
- Unofficial Fun Runs are still happening at the Growler until May! Meet at the Bear Naked Growler on Tuesdays for a run along the bike path at 5:30pm. Good news: you can put that reflective gear in the closet again – yay for later sunsets!
- Wanted! We had expressions of interest for club treasurer, membership coordinator, youth grants, and comms coordinator – thank you to all who have stepped up or are in discussions to learn more. Meanwhile we have one other role we’re looking to fill in time to be included in the slate of new board members at the March 15 annual meeting:
- Club Secretary- Current Secretary Cheryl Lasell is putting her pen down after four incredible years in this role. She leaves big shoes to fill, but we hope that someone in the club has just been waiting for their moment to step up. This is a board position with an indefinite term. The person who fills this role should be organized and detailed-oriented, skilled at capturing meeting decisions/actions (or have ideas for how to do so in ways that utilize new technology!), and generally keeping club written records. Please reach out directly if you’d like to learn more or discuss with Cheryl what the role entails/time commitment, etc.
- Member benefits – don’t forget your benefits! All details on benefits and how to access them can be found here.
