| President’s Note: I met with RunVermont Executive Director Anthea Dexter-Cooper this week to explore increasing CVR presence as participants in RunVermont’s event, the Vermont City Marathon. In the early years of VCM, CVR participation was greater than it is now. I will be meeting further with Anthea and GMAA President Nik Ponzio after this year’s VCM to discuss specific ways we can increase club runner presence in this event featuring a marathon, relay and half marathon. In the meantime, RunVermont is extending an offer to CVR and GMAA that any club member that signs up to volunteer as a course monitor for VCM in 2026 will get a code for $50 off the registration fee for Half Marathon Unplugged in 2027 and guaranteed entry into the 9 AM Unplugged wave for 2027. If you are interested in providing this important service and being a VCM course monitor, email Liz Champagne (lizc@runvermont.org).In another RunVermont note, congratulations to CVR (and GMAA) activist Anne Treadwell for her induction this year into the RunVermont Hall of Fame as a Runner of Distinction. This is a nice honor for a fine runner and person.- Tim NoonanNewsletter Highlights and Contents: April 19 – May 3Fun Run Green UpRace Updates and Volunteer NeedsRecent events recapFun Run – at Bear Naked Growler through end of AprilCVR BirthdaysDoug Jones memoriesOther News, Opportunities, and ClassifiedsMember benefit highlight |

| Remembering Doug JonesBob Murphy shared this memory of Doug Jones, fellow CVR founder: Although Doug Jones and I both worked for the Vt. Agency of Transportation back in 1980, I didn’t know him very well. He was a regular at the fun runs, though, and that’s where I met him. When talks began about starting a new running club in the Barre/Montpelier area, Doug was an enthusiastic supporter of the idea. It soon evolved to a situation where Doug, Darragh Ellerson, Paschal DeBlasio and I were meeting regularly to discuss details of how to begin. The process culminated in CVR being launched in early 1980. We came up with a constitution and bylaws, and Doug offered his artistic talents in creating a logo for the club. It was featured in the first page banner in all of our newsletters, and remained essentially unchanged for many years. |
