Central Vermont Runners
President’s Note
It is not difficult to notice the attraction running has to youth in our area. Just consider the various events that have occurred in central Vermont the past few months. The July 3 One Mile Race organized by Onion River Outdoors was enthusiastically embraced by kids and their parents. Track meets organized by Dylan Broderick this summer at the U32 track attracted many high schoolers. Similarly, many kids participated in the Natan Suter memorial Track Celebration in August on the Montpelier High School track. The Northfield Labor Day weekend events organized by CVR had a One Mile Race for kids.  The Air Peyton 5k fundraiser for pediatric cancer in September at Montpelier High School had many high school participants. High school and middle school cross country season has brought with it meets hosted by U32 and Montpelier.

Given this level of interest, it should not be surprising that CVR is considering resurrecting an event directed to kids that enjoyed popularity for over 20 years: the Kids Track Meet. CVR organized this fun and free event from 1996 through 2017 at the Montpelier High School track. It was open to all preschoolers through 6th graders. Events were 100 meter dash, 400 meter run, one-half mile run, one mile run, softball throw and long jump. CVR members considered this one of the most, if not the most, enjoyable event to step forward as a volunteer. We are considering renewing the meet on the first Friday evening in June next year. Let me know your thoughts on CVR putting on this fun event.
