CVR Birthdays this week:
Happy Birthday to: Helen Bryan, John Hackney, & Kathleen Humphrey!
Greetings from a damp Adamant,
We’ve had some needed rain showers here in Adamant the past few days with more expected for the next few days. Unfortunately, while we’ve been in need of the water, it did make for a wet Captial City Stampede, which was held this past Saturday. There were 91 finishers for the race that started and ended in front of Onion River Outdoors. Nick Orlando from South Burlington was the first male in a time of 33:54 for an average pace of 5:28. Jess Marini from Burlington was the first female in a time of 41:15 for an average pace of 6:39. This race was also the Vermont Senior Games qualifier for 10K. This would help explain why 12% of all runners were males aged 65 and up. We also had runners from British Columbia, California, Maine, New Hampshire, Florida, and Connecticut. The complete results are posted on the CVR website.
Speaking of rain and racing, we should keep our fingers crossed for this coming Saturday for the runners (a few from CVR) heading up Mt. Washington…a race described as having only one hill. Last year the race was shortened due to weather conditions on the summit. The current forecast is for showers. If you’ve never hiked up Mt. Washington, I encourage you to find a time this summer to give it a go. It’s a great cross training activity. If you go, please be prepared for, and mindful of the weather.
Club Meeting
The next meeting is August 28th. This will be a potluck beginning at 5:30 with the formal meeting beginning at 6:00 PM. We are looking for a place to hold the meeting. If anyone has a backyard they are willing to share with the club for a couple of hours, please let me know.
Membership Renewal – Reminder
It’s not too late to get in a full six races towards the Race Series if you join/renew now!
There’s a link to RunReg at https://cvrunners.org/join-cvr (“JOIN CVR”). This page also has a printable form for those who prefer to mail their renewal.
Renewing with a multi-year membership means fewer year-end renewals for you and less administration for the club.
Not sure when your membership is due for renewal?
• check your membership card (contact Graham if you need a new one)
•check when your membership expires by logging in to the CVR website. (Here are the instructions to log in)
• contact Graham and he can confirm your renewal date

Other runs
FUN RUN: Summer is here! People are showing up Tuesday evenings to enjoy roads and company through running and walking in rain or shine. The sunny weather is bringing out the runners. Come join us!
These runs are not timed. People may time themselves but the focus is for people to get out, meet new people and enjoy a run.
The Long Trail Running Club has Thursday evening runs in Chittenden County, starting and finishing at a brew pub. It’s a fun group, and they usually find good routes. Routes are 4-6 miles long; the group stops from time to time to wait for the caboose to catch up; there’s also often a group that walks. Check out the group at www.meetup.com/longtrailrunning

100 on 100
Vermont’s 100 on 100 Relay Race is AUGUST 12, 2023
Round up your closest friends and prepare to take on 100 miles of scenic Vermont terrain–while you make an endless supply of memories! The 100 on 100 Relay is a challenging relay where friends converge from across the country to complete 100 miles together along Vermont’s historic Route 100. Push beyond your limits, lean on your teammates, and complete something extraordinary. Plus, we’ll be having an epic after-party at the finish line with delicious food, live music, and beer (21+).
Note for the 100 on 100:
I have a spot for the 100 on 100 but unfortunately we can’t do it due to a wedding that day. They will not refund us, but I can transfer the registration. I wanted to reach out and see anyone is interested in doing the race that hasn’t signed up yet that we could transfer to. Looks like the current price is $799, but we only paid $650, so they would get a deal too! If interested, you can reach me directly at this email. mlmannino@gmail.com
Thanks! Michele

Other News
So this is happening!
I am hoping to run my first 100 mile race at the Vermont 100 Endurance Race and at the same time raise some $$$ for a great cause. Some of you know the story of my eye injury and my mantra of “I GET to do this” so I feel incredibly lucky to be able to attempt this BIG scary goal. (If you don’t know my story, check out the link to my fundraising page below.)
This run feels extra special as all the proceeds from the race fees benefit Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports, which provides sports and recreational programs to people with all sorts of disabilities. The VT 100 is also the world’s first trail and ultra race to support and recognize “visually” and mobility impaired athletes with their own division. How cool is that!
I have the opportunity to raise funds for the race, so if you are feeling like supporting a great cause, here is your chance.
Thank you !!!
