News and Notes

CVR Birthdays this week:

Happy Birthday to: Richard Ferno (new age group!), Merill Creagh, Kim Musgrave, & Myles Thornton-Sherman!

June 20, 2023

Greetings from an Adamant construction zone,

Adamant is the process of being wired for fiber-optic cable. In regard to running, this means I will be getting this newsletter to you even quicker.

Last week I had spoken of the desire for good weather for those folks running up Mt Washington. Well, the weather didn’t cooperate. The runners ran in rain and finished in 40 degree weather. Some race. There were a handful of CVR runners who made the summit.

Mt Washington wasn’t the only race experiencing rainy conditions.
Onion River Outdoors held the Birdland 5K Saturday as well. Justin Magill was the first male in a time of 24:05. Anna Milkowski was the first female in a time of 26:24. Eleven CVR runners competed in the race.

Club Meeting
The next meeting is August 28th. This will be a potluck beginning at 5:30 with the formal meeting beginning at 6:00 PM. We are looking for a place to hold the meeting. Don Singer has graciously agreed to host the meeting at his home located at 262 Hill St in Barre. (Thanks Don)

Membership Renewal – Reminder
It’s not too late to get in a full six races towards the Race Series if you join/renew now!
There’s a link to RunReg at https://cvrunners.org/join-cvr (“JOIN CVR”). This page also has a printable form for those who prefer to mail their renewal.
Renewing with a multi-year membership means fewer year-end renewals for you and less administration for the club.
Not sure when your membership is due for renewal?
• check your membership card (contact Graham if you need a new one)
•check when your membership expires by logging in to the CVR website. (Here are the instructions  to log in)
• contact  Graham and he can confirm your renewal date

Trail Running
Michelle Risley has a couple of great routes planned for Saturday in Groton State Forest. These are 4.3 and 9 mile options, meet at the Northern Parking Area at 8am.

Have a favorite trail or a place you would like to explore with the group, sign up to lead a run. There are slots available in July and August.

You can sign up to Host or check the details and sign up for upcoming runs on the Google Sheet <https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_Q5iTs68nmt0zl6WBomiWw3BSZyMWO6-18m1zlDHAYQ/edit#gid=0> or just send me an email mark@ormsbys.com

See you on the trails!
-Mark

Fun Run
FUN RUN: Summer is here!  People are showing up Tuesday evenings to enjoy roads and company through running and walking in rain or shine. The sunny weather is bringing out the runners. Come join us!
These runs are not timed. People may time themselves, but the focus is for people to get out, meet new people and enjoy a run.

Other runs
The Long Trail Running Club has Thursday evening runs in Chittenden County, starting and finishing at a brew pub. It’s a fun group, and they usually find good routes.  Routes are 4-6 miles long; the group stops from time to time to wait for the caboose to catch up; there’s also often a group that walks. Check out the group at www.meetup.com/longtrailrunning

Volunteers

  • VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
  • All of the remaining races for 2023 are open and accepting volunteers online using the link on the homepage, so please support CVR’s races and the race directors by volunteering now. Contact John Hackney with any questions about volunteering.

Race Series
Joe has updated the race series again! According to Joe there were a couple of sudden changes in the standings with people joining the club at the last moment.  Please check it out. If you think there’s an error, please reach out to Joe (roadduck99@yahoo.com).

Web Site
I know we’ve had members running some races outside the local area that I’d like to hear more about. Reach out to John with the details so we can share your experience with the entire club.

Send your running related stories and articles to John at info@cvrunners.org to be published on the CVR website.

Race Results/reviews:

Up Coming Events.
Bear Swamp Run
The annual Bear Swamp Run is scheduled for July 8th. Registration is open! This is an amazing race with the longest downhill finish I know.

Barre Heritage Trail 5K
The Barre Heritage Trail 5K is coming up July 29th.  Registration is open.  This race is heavily discounted for those who sign up early! Don’t wait.

Everyone and any body is invited to a course pre-view for the Barre Heritage Trail Race on July 1st at 9 am. This will be a no drop run, run/walk, walk event. You do not have to be registered for the Barre Heritage Trail Race. We will depart the Barre Town Forest Parking area at 44 Brook Street, Websterville, VT at 9am for the 3 mile course. The trail running group will meet earlier that morning at the trails for a different set of trails at 7am. Contact Donna Smyers to get on the trail group email list.

If any members are willing to be “buddies” to people who are new to trail running, support is appreciated. Any questions please contact Jackie at Jacqueline.Jancaitis@rehabgym.com.

Thanks so much!

Jackie

Groton Forest Trail Run
Groton Forest Trail Run is September 9th.

100 on 100
Vermont’s 100 on 100 Relay Race is AUGUST 12, 2023

Round up your closest friends and prepare to take on 100 miles of scenic Vermont terrain–while you make an endless supply of memories! The 100 on 100 Relay is a challenging relay where friends converge from across the country to complete 100 miles together along Vermont’s historic Route 100. Push beyond your limits, lean on your teammates, and complete something extraordinary. Plus, we’ll be having an epic after-party at the finish line with delicious food, live music, and beer (21+).
Note for the 100 on 100:
I have a spot for the 100 on 100 but unfortunately we can’t do it due to a wedding that day. They will not refund us, but I can transfer the registration. I wanted to reach out and see anyone is interested in doing the race that hasn’t signed up yet that we could transfer to. Looks like the current price is $799, but we only paid $650, so they would get a deal too! If interested, you can reach me directly at this email. mlmannino@gmail.com
Thanks! Michele
