CVR Birthdays this week:
Happy Birthday to: Kimberly Caldwell, James Lehneman (new age group!), Kira Saligman McGill, Dennis Casey, Blaise Smith, & Clara Ayer!
Greetings from a soggy Adamant,
We’re starting to dry out here in Adamant after Monday’s extreme rain storm. It will be some weeks before the roads around here are passable again. I hope you were able to stay dry and are able to be back out running again.
In my last newsletter I wrote briefly regarding the Montpelier Mile results. I stated that a new record had been set. My information source was my wife Dot who started the race and was present when the timer presented the finishing times and the winner was awarded a prize for setting the new record. Imagine our surprise when the Times Argus published the results with different times. This was followed by a long string of numerous emails between the timer, Onion River Outdoors staff, and other involved parties to determine why the difference and what WERE the correct results (no record was set). In the end neither the time I wrote or the time in the newspaper were correct. In the end a mechanical issue with one of the timing machines was blamed for the issue. I have a love/hate relationship with my race times (which is a whole other conversation). When I run a race, it’s how I feel that’s important, but even so, I still want to know my finish time and trust that it’s correct.
My bringing this up is to point out the importance of a group of people at every CVR event that quietly do their job behind the scenes. CVR puts on seventeen events over the course of a year. The club has over 1500 people competing in those events. Many of those events have different distance options as well different start times. Within each event awards are given for male/female/non-binary for each 10 year age group. It’s a lot of data to track and to keep straight. It’s been my experience that our timers do an amazing job throughout the race year to get people the right numbers, and quickly.
So, next time you’re running a race, please swing by the timing table and give the folks there (as their bent over their equipment and papers) a “Thank you”.
Be safe out there.
Club Meeting
The next meeting is August 28th. This will be a potluck beginning at 5:30 with the formal meeting beginning at 6:00 PM. We are looking for a place to hold the meeting. Don Singer has graciously agreed to host the meeting at his home located at 262 Hill St in Barre. (Thanks Don)

Fun Run
FUN RUN: Summer is here! A lot of people are showing up Tuesday evenings to enjoy roads and company through running and walking in rain or shine. The warm weather is bringing out the runners. Come join us!
These runs are not timed. People may time themselves, but the focus is for people to get out, meet new people and enjoy a run.
Other runs
The Long Trail Running Club has Thursday evening runs in Chittenden County, starting and finishing at a brew pub. It’s a fun group, and they usually find good routes. Routes are 4-6 miles long; the group stops from time to time to wait for the caboose to catch up; there’s also often a group that walks. Check out the group at www.meetup.com/longtrailrunning
