CVR Birthdays this week:
Happy Birthday to: Deirdre Ellerson, Cindy Gardner-Morse, Lori LaCroix, Fabienne Pattison, & Sarah Black (New age group!)!
Greetings from a less soggy and partially accessible Adamant,
Last week as the water was trying hard to wash away Adamant, one person started placing rocks and shoveling gravel to direct the water away from a house in town. Within ten minutes there were a handful of people in rubber boots with shovels in their hands pitching in to help. Within half an hour the water was successfully directed away from the house preventing further damage. In talking to people and reading accounts, this is a scenario that has been repeated across the state as Vermonters address the flooding of our state. I’m not surprised by this.
When I started running CVR races in 2008, Onion River Sports was a main contributor of gift cards to race winners. That practice continued when Kip and Jen took over and renamed the business Onion River Outdoors. Additionally, they have hosted their own events for runners.
The recent flood inundated Onion River Outdoors. I saw a number of club members at ORO after the water receded helping to clean merchandise dirtied by the water. It was a small step in the process of ORO being able to reopen. The CVR executive committee recognizing the importance of our relationship with ORO, has decided to spend $1000.00 of club money to purchase club cards to support ORO. The $1000.00 is also a small step for our neighbors at ORO to help them reopen. Allee from ORO wrote me that Right now, one of ORO’s main priorities is figuring out how to re-open. ORO is currently raising flood recovery funds through a GoFundMe page and through ORO gift cards. These can be accessed here GoFundMe and here ORO gift cards .
I recognize that it seems like everywhere we look there is a need, and it may seem overwhelming. However, ORO is our neighbor and needs our support. Please do what you can.
Be safe out there.

Fun Runs
FUN RUN: Summer is here! A lot of people are showing up Tuesday evenings to enjoy roads and company through running and walking in rain or shine. The warm weather is bringing out the runners. Come join us!
These runs are not timed. People may time themselves, but the focus is for people to get out, meet new people and enjoy a run.
Other runs
The Long Trail Running Club has Thursday evening runs in Chittenden County, starting and finishing at a brew pub. It’s a fun group, and they usually find good routes. Routes are 4-6 miles long; the group stops from time to time to wait for the caboose to catch up; there’s also often a group that walks. Check out the group at www.meetup.com/longtrailrunning

Another way to help
Do you have 2 hours/week and some running, jumping and/or throwing enthusiasm to share?
Please consider supporting local athletes by volunteering to help coach Central Vermont Special Olympics Track & Field this summer!
No special coaching experience is necessary, just availability and enthusiasm (although anyone with a little experience or interest in throws and jumps could help there).
The fun, low-key practices will be Tuesday evenings at the U-32 track for 8 weeks, starting next week (July 25) and leading up to the festive Fall Games on Sept. 16.
For more info on joining in, please contact Ellen Riley, jrervt@aol.com or Anne Treadwell, ac98@cornell.edu. Thank you!
