CVR Birthdays this week:
September 13, 2023
Happy Birthday to: Priscilla Carr (new age group), Marcia Clark (new age group), Linda Hallinger, John Valentine, Joanne Garton, Richard Littauer, & Emery Mattheis(new age group)!
Greetings from an early fall Adamant,
According to Nonprofitsource.com, approximately 25% of Americans donate their time and energy in volunteering. According to an article by Barbra Field, volunteering does more than help the organization. Volunteering also helps the person by improving your mood. It also reduces loneliness and stress, builds friendships and connections, and reduces depression. There is also a study by Sneed and Cohen that showed a correlation between volunteering and low blood pressure.
CVR is an organization that survives on the work of volunteers. I also know that our lives are busy. Even “retired” I feel just as busy as when I worked. However, volunteering is important to me. I hope you will all find time to volunteer some of your time, whether for CVR or some other cause.
Mid September is only a few days away which means the Sodom Pond 4 miler is upon us.
The CVR Apparel Store is OPEN from now until Sept 30 for orders! The problem with a shipping charge has been fixed, so you should be good to go!
This is your 1st chance since 2019 to get new CVR T-Shirts, singlets, and sweatshirts. New for 2023 you can order CVR jackets, vests and running caps for more ways to show your CVR spirit while staying warm!
Items ordered will be delivered to Richarda Ericson in Montpelier in mid October. We will arrange distribution and pick-up procedures at that time.
This is a limited time order period, so plan ahead for all your CVR clothing needs. Remember that CVR clothing is great for gifts!

Fun Run
Bob Murphy wrote me that the FEMA encampment has left the Dept of Labor parking lot! Fun Runs can now resume their normal starting point! Weather was nice tonight! These are a fun & casual way to get in a few miles and make some new friends & connections.
Other runs
The Long Trail Running Club has Thursday evening runs in Chittenden County, starting and finishing at a brew pub. It’s a fun group, and they usually find good routes. Routes are 4-6 miles long; the group stops from time to time to wait for the caboose to catch up; there’s also often a group that walks. Check out the group at www.meetup.com/longtrailrunning
Membership Renewal – Reminder
There’s a link to RunReg at https://cvrunners.org/join-cvr (“JOIN CVR”). This page also has a printable form for those who prefer to mail their renewal.
Renewing with a multi-year membership means fewer year-end renewals for you and less administration for the club.
Not sure when your membership is due for renewal?
• check your membership card (contact Graham if you need a new one)
•check when your membership expires by logging in to the CVR website. (Here are the instructions to log in)
• contact Graham and he can confirm your renewal date
Volunteers
- VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
- Tim needs volunteers for the Sodom Pond race. Reach out to him to help make this race a success!
- All of the remaining races for 2023 are open and accepting volunteers online using the link on the homepage, so please support CVR’s races and the race directors by volunteering now. Contact John Hackney with any questions about volunteering.
Race Series
Only two races left! Find out where you are. The Sodom Pond 4 miler could be a way to move up in the standings.
Web Site
I know we’ve had members running some races outside the local area that I’d like to hear more about. Reach out to John with the details so we can share your experience with the entire club.
Send your running related stories and articles to John at info@cvrunners.org to be published on the CVR website.
Race Results/reviews:
Per Jim Flint, a bunch of CVR runners extended the club’s reach south of Route 4 on Saturday at the 5k For the Fight Race in West Rutland. The race helped raise $2300 for the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network. The flat course led to fast times. Attached is a photo of our CVR group along with a photo of the results. We all got together for a swim and potluck lunch after the race.

2023 FOOTPRINTS TRAIL RUN
- Saturday, September 30, 2023
- 9:30 AM 2:30 PM
- Craftsbury Outdoor Center535 Lost Nation Road Craftsbury Common, VT, 05827United States
We invite all trail runners to join us for the Footprints Trail Run. We’ll start the day off with a trail race, winding from the Outdoor Center through singletrack, ski trails and dirt roads up to Craftsbury Common on either a 5 or 10-mile course
Island Vines 10k/5k
This is scheduled for Sunday Sept 17, 9:00am, and the host is the SnowFarm Vineyard in South Hero. This is the 10th annual. I don’t think this race is well known, and that’s a shame because it’s a fantastic venue and a real nice course on West Shore Rd with decent post-race amenities including beer/wine, food, music. Out of all our races, I’d say this is the one people tend to hang out for the longest afterwards, at least in comparison to the time it takes to run the race. Registration currently open at https://runsignup.com/Race/VT/SouthHero/IslandVines10K
Northeast Kingdom Marathon and Half Marathon Sept 16th

Sodom Pond 4 Miler
The Sodom Pond 4 Miler is scheduled for September 20th. Similar to Berlin Pond but a mile shorter! A great little race here in Adamant.
Leaf Peepers
Will Robens reports that registration for Leaf Peepers is now open! October 1st!
