News and Notes

CVR Birthdays this week:

Happy Birthday to: Jaime Gadwah, Fred Pond, Shannon Salembier, Meg Voisin, & George Moltz!

Greetings from a slow Adamant,

As we enter stick season, the pace here in Adamant seems to be slowing. The gardens are being readied for winter, lawn mowers being put away, there seems to be more orange clothing appearing, and the roads are a bit quieter. Hopefully this weekend’s Nor’ Easter won’t muddy things up too much. This is not to say that running is over for the year. CVR still has the Fallen Leaves series coming up the first three Saturdays of November. Over Burlington way the Massive Group Run is back on November 12th at 10 AM (tentative) at Oakledge Park.  This is a fun run with many of the local running groups participating.  The more the merrier! The Upper Valley Running Club has the Tiger Run the end of October. I won’t even try to guess the number of Turkey Trots that will be held in November. So don’t put away those running shoes just yet.

The race committee continues to move forward with coming up with a schedule for next year. Included with our discussions is the inclusion of a race put on by the Upper Valley Running Club. They have their own race series ( 2023 Upper Valley Running Series | Upper Valley Running Club ). I encourage members to take a look at their series and let me know what you think might be a good fit with our race schedule from this past year. Here’s the GMAA race schedule from this past year as well ( Race Schedule – GMAA ).

Trail Running
I was out on the Long Trail in the Stowe area over the weekend and it seemed in good shape. While that’s a small sample, I’m guessing the trails have dried out a bit more from the summer rains. Hopefully this coming weekend’s rain won’t impact the trails too much. Enjoy and be safe.

Fun Run
Official fun runs are over for the year however, there continues to be a turnout on Tuesday evenings to get in a few miles.  The days are getting shorter (just under 11 hours!), however bright clothing (like those neon tops) and lights will make for a safer run.

Other runs
The Long Trail Running Club has Thursday evening runs in Chittenden County, starting and finishing at a brew pub. It’s a fun group, and they usually find good routes.  Routes are 4-6 miles long; the group stops from time to time to wait for the caboose to catch up; there’s also often a group that walks. Check out the group at www.meetup.com/longtrailrunning

Membership Renewal – Reminder
There’s a link to RunReg at https://cvrunners.org/join-cvr (“JOIN CVR”). This page also has a printable form for those who prefer to mail their renewal.
Renewing with a multi-year membership means fewer year-end renewals for you and less administration for the club.
Not sure when your membership is due for renewal?
• check your membership card (contact Graham if you need a new one)
•check when your membership expires by logging in to the CVR website. (Here are the instructions  to log in)
• contact  Graham and he can confirm your renewal date

Volunteers
Volunteers are still needed for the upcoming Fallen Leaves 5Ks.Race Series
The race series is done for the year so check the standings and start thinking about next year! The race committee is planning what races will be in the race series next year. Send me your suggestions!

Web Site
I know we’ve had members running some races outside the local area that I’d like to hear more about. Reach out to John with the details so we can share your experience with the entire club.

Send your running related stories and articles to John at info@cvrunners.org to be published on the CVR website.
