Northfield 5K Run/Walk, 5K Power Walk, and One Mile Kids’ Race

Presented by Central Vermont Runners (CVR) and the Vermont Senior Games Association (VSGA), the annual road race events kick off Northfield’s Labor Day Weekend Festival!

Description: Central Vermont Runners (CVR) and the Vermont Senior Games Association (VSGA) present the 46th Annual Northfield 5k run/walk, 5k Power Walk, and One-mile Kids’ race on Saturday, August 30, in downtown Northfield. This exciting community event for young and old kicks off Northfield’s Labor Day weekend festivities.

The Northfield 5k Run/Walk is officially endorsed by the New England 65+ Runners Club, an organization of active senior athletes from all areas of New England and beyond.

Directions/Parking/Portalets: From Interstate-89 take exit 5 to VT Rt. 64 west toward Northfield. Turn right on Rt. 12 north. Proceed past Norwich University toward downtown. On-street parking is available along the right side of Main St. (Route 12) as you are heading down the hill. Portalets will be set up on the west side of Depot Square.

5K Run/Walk
  $20 – Until August 19*
  $25 – August 20 – August 28*
  $30 – Race day
*$5 online registration discount (automatically applied at checkout) for ages 65+ and ages 10-19 in the 5k run/walk.

5K Power Walk (ages 50 and up)
  $15 – Until August 19
  $20 – August 20 – August 28

Race Day:
The races begin in front of the Northfield Savings Bank. Mile markers will be posted along the 5k course. A water station will be located at the midpoint of the 5K course. Course maps will be available on race day.

The kids’ mile begins on Rt. 12 near the Northfield Post Office, continues up the hill, and loops back to the finish line at Depot Square via South St., Central St., and Wall St.

Please note that strollers, headphones, and dogs are not allowed in the races. Minors under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign the waiver for the minor to participate. The awards ceremony follows the kids’ mile race.

    

Prizes:
  CVR Age Group Awards:For the 5k race, CVR will award a prize to the fastest male, female, and nonbinary finisher in the five year age groups from 10-14, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90+. For the 1-mile kids’ run, prizes will go to the top three male, female, and non-binary participants in age groups 6-8 and 9-11.
  Vermont Senior Games medals:VSGA will award gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively, to the top three male, female, and non-binary finishers over age 50 (five year age groups) in the 5k run/walk and the 5k Power Walk.

Beneficiaries: Proceeds from the Northfield races support Central Vermont Runners’ youth running grants and the 
Vermont Senior Games Association

Additional Beneficiary: Please consider making a $2 contribution (or larger) to support The Veteran’s Place, a transitional group home in Northfield serving unhoused veterans.

A group of veterans from The Veteran’s Place will be participating in the 5k walk as our special guests. Thank you for supporting local veterans by chipping in a little extra when registering for the race online!
