CVR Birthdays this week:
Happy Birthday to: David Erickson, Marclay Erickson, Dot Martin, Alice McCormick
Hi CVR Members,
Cooler weather is definitely here with snow flurries already in the forecast! Don’t forget this weekend it’s the Leaf Peepers Half Marathon and 5K. Let’s get into the news.
Sodom Pond 4 Miler
The race event was held last Wednesday with a very nice turnout of 40 runners. Seth Jackson burned the course in an awesome time of 22:45 while CVR George Aitken was 2nd at 25:03. CVR Richarda Ericson was the female winner with a time of 28:11. A lot of nice performances and you can view all the results here.
Trail Runs Extended
I removed the Summer because we are now into Fall trail runs! Natalie Gentry hosted the trail runs again last Saturday on her favorite trails in the Barre Town Forest. Some new faces in the picture below which is great. This week the trail runs will take a break for Leaf Peepers but will return on October 9th as Scott Widmer will host a run in Berlin. If you would like to be added to the email post about the runs click here: Add me to Trail Email List.
We had a great turnout of 19 runners for this week’s fun run on what was a really cool evening run. Eight of us went to the Julio’s dinner social gathering after the run as well. With darkness coming earlier I see we have about 3 remaining fun runs. I predict 10/19 to be our last run of the year. We will also make that our last Julio’s event of the year for those who want to celebrate.
Next Up Races
Leaf Peepers Half Marathon and 5K this Sunday, October 3rd at 9:00 am. Our next CVR Race won’t be until the Fallen Leaves Series in November but there are many race events happening in October including ORO’s Autumn Onion listed below.
Many CVR runners will be participating in the upcoming Boston Marathon on October 11th as well as the Green Mountain Marathon on October 16th. As everyone knows the Vermont City Marathon has been down graded to a half marathon and that will be on October 24th. Good luck to all CVR runners participating in these events.
There has been great response so far with the survey I published over the weekend. There has been 55 responses so far. Survey #1 had 85 responses and you have until next Friday to take it so let’s try to beat the previous rate. We have a lot of valuable information coming in. I’ve been told it is taking about 10 minutes to complete the survey so please give it a shot! Click here to go to the survey, CVR Survey.
Leaf Peepers Training
The Leaf Peepers training had its next to last group training in the series. Tomorrow will be the last the group will be together before Sunday’s race! The group has put in a tremendous amount of training miles and everyone looks ready and excited to race! Good luck!
Groton State Forest Run – I failed to mention CVR member Daniel Voisin in last week’s notes because he didn’t show up as a member in our system due to a glitch. That’s been fixed! Dan had a great run in the 15 mile event where he placed 3rd overall and was the first CVR runner with a time of 2:26:07. Congratulations! If you haven’t seen your name recently in my news and believe there is an error please reach out to me.
Downriver Rail Run 10K – Bob Murphy reported to me about the results for those from CVR that ran at the Downriver Rail Run 10k from Enfield to Lebanon, N.H., on 25 Sep. Beautiful running conditions on an essentially flat course.
First male was 26 year old Jacob Wormald of Nashua, N.H., in 33:56. First female was 34 year old Hannah Taska of W. Lebanon, N.H., in 40:34. There were 113 finishers.

I was made aware the VT50 was also held over the weekend. I was not able to search the results page long enough to find all the CVR runners but I do know Jeff Hope participated in the 50K event and had a time of 6:10:19. Congratulations! If I missed anyone let me know and I will report you next week.
