News and Notes

CVR Birthdays this week:

Happy Birthday to: Casarah Acosta, Mark Howard, Gary Kessler, Jennifer Miller-Arsenault, Tim Noonan, Phyllis Tillinghast, Matthew Walker, Tara Cariano, Christine Duke, Joseph Moore, Marcie Weaver, & Emily Shea.

Greetings from the Black Fly capital of Vermont,

The club put on a successful half-marathon in Adamant this past weekend. There were sixty-four (64) finishers with five (5) of those being two-person relays.

Amanda Watters 42 Ashland MA 1:36:22 was the first woman. That’s Amanda below in blue shorts.

1 George Aitken 28 Waterbury VT 1:25:36 was the first male. George is in black below.

The complete race results can be found on the CVR website: adamant-half-combined-2022 (cvrunners.org)
The results will also show you who set AG records, so check it out!

Racers were fed with soups and sweets following the race. Runners especially appreciated many raffle prizes in addition to category winners who received prizes of Adamant mugs or Onion River Outdoors gift cards.

For those people thinking of running VCM next year, quite a few CVR runners decided to make this their last long run before VCM this year. A number of them also added on miles before the race to give them an even longer run.

Hats off to Donna and all the volunteers who made this a great event.

Fun Runs/walks are happening!
Every Tuesday at 5:30 Fun Runs are happening.  Distances are 2, 4, and 6 miles on a flat, out and back route along the river. The runs are self-timed if you’re interested in that. We had a good turnout last week even without the bright sunshine we’re seeing now.

Green-up Day
Mack Gardner-Morse reported that was seeing a lot of litter on the Fun Run Course.    So, Thursday May 5th CVR members got together to help Green Up the Fun Run course. We had great weather and no bugs for cleaning up the Fun Run course. We had Donna Symers, Tom Mowatt, Cindy Gardner-Morse, Chris Andresen, and myself as volunteers.  We collected over a dozen Green Up bags and one tire from the Fun Run course.

People driving along the road or biking/walking along the path waved and thanked us, as did the Berlin police officer at the Berlin Town dumpster.

Thank you to all the volunteers for their help in cleaning up most of the three mile Fun Run course.

Membership Renewal – Reminder

We are in the renewal time of year. If your membership year is 2021 your membership expired on 3/31/2022. Those who haven’t yet renewed please move it up on your “to-do list”.

Volunteer Signup
To make this year’s events successful, we need volunteers! Race Directors are always in need of volunteers so if you are available on the day of an event and will not be running, please consider volunteering. This year, we are accepting your sign up on our website. Click here to check out the signup site. Click on “Volunteer for a CVR Race”. If any issues, please reach out to our webmaster John Hackney.

Race directors, please remember to get your lists of volunteers to Dot Helling as quickly as you can.  Dot is responsible for tracking who volunteers for what so they can be recognized for their help.

Race Results/reviews:
There are races all over the world (yes world) that CVR club members participate in. If you complete a race, please send me a short blurb about it. People like to hear about races/runs. Thanks.

ORO shoe demo days
We are working with Hoka and Altra to put on two demo days in the next two weeks. Apologies for the short notice but we were just able to confirm these with them.
The second is Altra, on Tuesday, May 17th, also 5:30-7ish.

We’ll likely do two run groups for each event – one mellow, and one for folks who want to go faster. We are working with the reps to have a selection of demo shoes that people can try.

Shoes for sale
A couple of people are selling their shoes:
Graham Sherriff has two pairs of Saucony Peregrine trail shoes for sale, mens size 11, one new pair and one newly new. See https://vermont.craigslist.org/spo/d/montpelier-saucony-peregrine-size-11/7478639000.html for details.

I bought these a year or two ago and only ran in them twice as they did not work for me.
Know anyone who might want them?  Flexible on price.
