News and Notes

CVR Birthdays this week:

Happy Birthday to: David Erickson (new age group!), Clare Waterman, & Mark Evans

An early greeting from Adamant,

I apologize for the early and short newsletter this week. I’m heading out on the trails of Vermont to enjoy the weather and foliage before the snow flies.

Leaf Peepers
Leaf Peepers was this past Saturday.  There were 147 runners in the 5K with James Randon (17:01) and Livingston Ottman (20:21) the top male and female runners. The half marathon had 213 runners with George Aitken cruising in at 1:21:19 and Jennifer Moltz at 1:30:39. It was a beautiful day for the run with lots of smiles. The complete results are on the CVR web site. I will post pictures when I get some.

The attached photo is of Bob Murphy and his daughter Maureen (#376, in the yellow cap), taken
by another daughter Shannon.  It depicts the younger generation
overtaking the older.  She says it’s the first time she has finished
ahead of Bob.   The passing of the torch…

Fun Runs/walks are happening! (Even in the spotty weather)
Runners and Walkers
.

These evening runs are a great way to get in a few, relaxed miles, with a bunch of people who know a boatload of stuff about running and are willing to share what they know.

Trail Running
I’m not aware of a trail run this weekend but keep checking…
See the Group Trail Run spreadsheet for info on planned runs.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QVYTimMdXi0NafvtSjvwcacQ1yP4uMNipIJw7FUeymU/edit#gid=650063008

It’s a Google Doc. You can look ahead and see if there’s a run that interests you.

If you haven’t yet joined a summer trail run, put one or more on your calendar – they are always a lot of fun. Feel free to host a trail run as well.

Volunteer Signup
There are still three club races left this year. Tim always is in need of volunteers!   Please consider volunteering. This year, we are accepting your sign up on our website. Click here to check out the signup site. Click on “Volunteer for a CVR Race”. If any issues, please reach out to our webmaster John Hackney

Using the volunteer’s app, race directors are responsible for making any final changes to their list of volunteers within 2 or 3 days after their race. Then, using the ‘Set volunteer status’ item on their menu, they should set the volunteer status of their race to Final to prevent any more changes from being made.

Race Results/reviews:

CVR Race Series:

The race series is done! Check out the results….BUT…remember…..If you haven’t volunteered, you can’t win.

Up Coming Events.
Ripton Ridge Run
The 35th annual Ripton Ridge Run is October 9th. This is an in-person or Virtual run. registration is at riptonridgerun.org .
I’ve done this run a couple of times. It’s a great little race that’s a loop run. It alternates directions each year.   Great food afterwards.

Autumn Onion 5K
The registration for the annual Autumn Onion Costumer Race on Sunday, Oct. 30th, is now open! If you need a reason to run through the streets of Montpelier dressed in a costume, this is it. It’s a 5K where costumes are encouraged.

Here is the sign up link!

Fallen Leaves
The last three races of the year are the Fallen Leaves series. Those are November 5, 12, & 19. They’re fun, flat, & fast. More info in coming newsletters.
Other News

Jim Flint raced Saturday in the New Hampshire Half Marathon, a point to point race from Hebron to Bristol, along the shore of Newfound Lake. “This was my first in-person half marathon since 2019. The conditions were ideal for running with temperatures right around 50. I averaged 7:17 per mile, finishing 16th in 1:35:19 (fastest over age 50). My race was aided by a group in their 20s and 30s that I paced with. The runners included the top woman, Whitney Angelini, who finished seven seconds ahead of me. Whitney doubled at Leaf Peepers, finishing the half in 1:38:49 (fifth in the F30-39 age group).”

Judi McEntyre, wife of early CVR member Joe McEntyre, has died.  Joe and
Judi hosted many a CVR meeting and picnic in its early days at their
home in Plainfield. Joe was a staunch supporter of CVR and the guy who
brought a toilet to fun run as part of a protest during the showdown
with the Liquor Department in the early 1980s. Joe and Judi had moved to
Florida after retirement, and she died there on September 8th. Many of
our older members will have fond memories of Judi and Joe.

CVR Equipment Use
Anyone wanting to use equipment send Sal (and cc myself) a request that includes 1) Date equipment to be removed from the shed, 2) Itemized list of equipment being removed; including quantities, 3) Date equipment will be returned to the shed.  Please send Sal (and cc myself) and email to let us know when the equipment has been returned.

The Club Timing Clock
If you use the club timing clock, it’s important it be returned the next day. The clock is used for a lot of events other than club races. It’s club policy that if the clock is requested for a non-CVR event, a CVR member must be present to ensure proper handling.

FOR SALE
I (Ricky Mclain) am a CVR member and I have a couple of pieces of running gear for sale. The first is a COROS Pace 2 GPS watch. Excellent shape, just opted for a Garmin instead as I have other Garmin devices. Used for 5 months. $120.
The second is a Polar H10 chest heart rate strap. Only used a couple of times. $50.
