News and Notes

CVR Birthdays this week:

Happy Birthday to: Jaime Gadwah, Nicholas Managan (new age group!), Fred Pond, & Meg Voisin!

Greetings from a peaceful Adamant,

It seems the geese have headed south for the winter here in Adamant. Likewise, the racing season is quieting down. There are three remaining races put on by CVR: the Fallen Leaves series. This is a group of three 5K races, on first three consecutive Saturdays in November. I’ve always enjoyed their low-key nature that seems to fit in well with the time of year. Tim Noonan does a great job directing these with the proceeds going to help a local charity.

A reminder to all, the races also serve as the last opportunity for those competing in the CVR/ORO race series to get their volunteer requirement completed. It doesn’t matter how many points you have if you haven’t volunteered you won’t be considered for the series.

But, before we get to the Fallen Leaves series, ORO is putting on the Autumn Onion. A fun race through the streets of Montpelier. Check below for a link to register, or better yet, swing into the store to get more information.

Mark Your Calendars
The next CVR club meeting is coming up November 7th! We’ll be presenting next year’s race calendar so plan on attending. I’ll let you know time and place soon.

Green Mt Marathon and Half Marathon
The Green Mt Marathon and Half Marathon were this past weekend. A beautiful day from a run as shown in the picture of Dot Helling on course below.  I’ve enjoyed this race in the past as the course took you along the water. They changed the course a couple of years ago where the marathon runners now have to run the same course as the half marathoners twice. In a quick scan of the results I saw that John Hackney and John Kaeding both ran the marathon as well as Celine Blais. Sal Acosta, Nick Persampieri (second in age group), Tom Hogeboom, Allie Nerrenberg (third in her age group), Anne Treadwell (second in her age group), Maricela Acosta, & Dot Helling (second in her age group) completed the half marathon. I apologize if I missed anyone.

Fun Runs/walks are still happening! (Even in the spotty weather)

These evening runs are a great way to get in a few, relaxed miles, with a bunch of people who know a boatload of stuff about running and are willing to share what they know.

Trail Running
I’m not aware of a trail run this weekend but keep checking…
See the Group Trail Run spreadsheet for info on planned runs.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QVYTimMdXi0NafvtSjvwcacQ1yP4uMNipIJw7FUeymU/edit#gid=650063008

It’s a Google Doc. You can look ahead and see if there’s a run that interests you.

If you haven’t yet joined a summer trail run, put one or more on your calendar – they are always a lot of fun. Feel free to host a trail run as well.

Volunteer Signup
There are still three club races left this year. Tim always is in need of volunteers!   Please consider volunteering. This year, we are accepting your sign up on our website. Click here to check out the signup site. Click on “Volunteer for a CVR Race”. If any issues, please reach out to our webmaster John Hackney

Using the volunteer’s app, race directors are responsible for making any final changes to their list of volunteers within 2 or 3 days after their race. Then, using the ‘Set volunteer status’ item on their menu, they should set the volunteer status of their race to Final to prevent any more changes from being made.

Race Results/reviews:

CVR Race Series: ?
The race series is done! Check out the results….BUT…remember…..If you haven’t volunteered, you can’t win.

Up Coming Events.
Autumn Onion 5K
The registration for the annual Autumn Onion Costumer Race on Sunday, Oct. 30th, is now open! If you need a reason to run through the streets of Montpelier dressed in a costume, this is it. It’s a 5K where costumes are encouraged. Here is the sign up link!

Fallen Leaves
The last three races of the year are the Fallen Leaves series. Those are November 5, 12, & 19. They’re fun, flat, & fast.

CVR Equipment Use
Anyone wanting to use equipment send Sal (and cc myself) a request that includes 1) Date equipment to be removed from the shed, 2) Itemized list of equipment being removed; including quantities, 3) Date equipment will be returned to the shed.  Please send Sal (and cc the club president) and email to let us know when the equipment has been returned.

The Club Timing Clock
If you use the club timing clock, it’s important it be returned the next day. The clock is used for a lot of events other than club races. It’s club policy that if the clock is requested for a non-CVR event, a CVR member must be present to ensure proper handling.

You have running gear you’re not using and would like to sell it, I’m happy to post it here for you.
